Van Devi tekdi

The barren hill behind Vanadevi temple in Kothrud is known vandevi mandir hill. The land was barren since many years. It was used for open defecation by nearby slum people. The hill was full of broken glass. One of our committed volunteer Jasvinder SIngh started planting and sowing seeds on this hill in around 2014. After marking same level points for CCT (Continuous contour trench) we dug trenches and started planting trees on it. As usual initially there were quite a few failures. But because of volunteers like Sameer Joshi , we could overcome failures. Around 100 plants survived.

In 2018 forest department had constructed compound wall around the hill and with support from Kothud MLA Sow Medha Tai Kulkarni , forest department planted around 800 trees on the hill. Our group then installed drip system for all the plants. We ensured all plants get water in the hot summer of 2019. Our group is a witness of a good case study of conversion of open defecation barren land to a clean and green place for morning walk.
